Named after Madlib’s ‘Shades Of Blue’ and the iconic ‘taking the blue pill’ moment from the Matrix franchise, this event is a metaphorical night of music collaboration between two renowned music labels: Blue Note and Stones Throw Records. A limited edition set of four vinyls would be released and sold, featuring Shades Of Blue by Madlib, Cocaine Piñata by Freddie Gibbs and Madlib, Madvillany by MF DOOM and Madlib, and Rise Up Ghost by The Roots and Elvis Costello.
The design incorporated classic and renowned styles from both labels. Blue Note’s simplistic composition and use of type placement were combined with the clean, contemporary look and colours of Stones Throw album covers designed by Jeff Jank. The poster featured an overlapping mingle of the four chosen colours for each artist, symbolising the collaborative and live mash-up performances that would take place on the night.
