For this visual, I wanted to translate the theme of repetition and the main protagonist’s obsessive determination. These elements become the central focus of his life, and this is reflected in the poster by making the drums and sticks the main focus. Additionally, the use of stroboscopic flash captures the movement of the drumsticks in a single photo, conveying the dramatic and energetic playing style of jazz. I chose to create a large format (A2) cyanotype for the final version. The blue tones of the cyanotype reference the historic appearance of Blue Note Records album covers, which are synonymous with jazz music. Furthermore, the raw, brushed edges give the otherwise clean, atheistic design a rough and distressed appearance, which further connects with the film’s concepts.
